Innovation & Creative Leadership Development Programs
Pracademy offers life-changing, 21st-century corporate training programs that help our clients transform their employees into radically disruptive and empathic leaders. Our programs consist of world-class and empirically tested learning experiences that help shift individual mindsets and change organizational cultures. We co-design these programs with our clients by taking a collaborative and long-view perspective.
Pracademy currently runs two such programs: the Leadership Potentials Development Program at Wilhelmsen, a global leader in the maritime industry, and DT Bergen, Norway’s first Executive Education Program in Design Thinking.
Wilhelmsen LePo program
“We need to adapt a Silicon Valley mindset---before it is too late.” This was the rallying call issued by Thomas Wilhelmsen, Group CEO of Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding, during his opening speech at the 2017 Nor-Shipping Conference 2017.
The Leadership Potentials (LePos) Development program is Wilhelmsen’s timely answer to that call. This four-month program run in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, is currently training 24 hand-picked, high-potential Wilhelmsen leaders from dozens of countries in design thinking, creative leadership, and digital competence.
To find the right provider of this program, Wilhelmsen reached out to the leading design-thinking and innovation-training institutions globally. These included world-class universities the likes of Stanford. Pracademy submitted a proposal and was eventually chosen.
To kickstart the program, Pracademy was invited to Wilhemsen’s Annual Management Forum in June 2017 where the corporation’s top 30 managers globally were in attendance. Pracademy’s goal at this event was to communicate the value of the design-thinking methodology and mindset. Here is some of the feedback after the Forum: “Exceptionally good,” “lots of energy,” and “people were over the moon about it.”
As a result of this success, 24 representatives from the C-Suite and top management team, including Thomas Wilhelmsen, volunteered to serve as mentors for the LePos.
The LePos training program’s pedagogical philosophy is solidly based on learning by doing and project-based learning. We believe that the only way one learns to innovate is by actually innovating through small, incremental steps—and not by simply thinking or discussing about it through traditional business-school cases. In this way, the LePos’ learn through the opportunities they and their teammates create for themselves while tackling real-life company challenges.
Furthermore, many of our proposed training program’s activities and learning experiences take place not in a traditional classroom setting, but out in the real business world, where innovation really happens. By gradually exposing the LePos to this reality, they get a much better sense of what it’s like to deal with the tremendous ambiguity and messiness of creativity and innovation, and to pursue opportunities through the practice of design-thinking leadership.
The aim is to enable Wilhelmsen to focus on corporate culture, change, and the design of innovative products and services. In this way, Wilhelmsen can continue to shape the maritime industry going forward—as they have done for the last 156 years.
